Covid-19 Update

June 1, 2020

To the Morro Bay Presbyterian Church Family,

Session met last Thursday to discuss the when and how of reopening, now that the way has been opened by the State and the County. We anticipate having our first service of the congregation on Sunday, July 5, barring a second wave of the corona virus. Should we experience a spike in corona virus cases, we will consider opening at a later date.

Many of you have taken part in a survey. Some have indicated that you will return to worship in the sanctuary as soon as we reopen. Others have indicated that you will wait until later. Still others have said you would not be comfortable until a vaccine is available. To that end we will continue to make worship available online. We are also exploring making the service available live via FM radio.

As you consider returning to worship in the sanctuary please be aware that we will make every effort to meet or exceed all Federal, State and County guidelines. We will ask the following of you:

  • Masks or face coverings are to be worn.
  • The 6 foot distancing is to be observed, standing and sitting.
  • Sit only in the open pews and in the designated spaces.
  • Bibles and hymnals will be removed from the pews. (You are encouraged to bring your own Bible.)
  • There will be no greeting at the door or passing the Peace of Christ. (You are still greatly loved and cherished.)
  • We will not sing. Hymns and praise music will be played by the piano and organ or recorded music will be provided.
  • Offering plates will not be passed but placed on a stand near the door.
  • There will not be a fellowship time. The Ephesus Room will be closed.
  • You will be dismissed by row, starting in the back. Please do not linger, but proceed directly to the parking lot and maintain the six foot distance.

Yes, this is a great inconvenience but while we don’t want to live in fear, we also want to act intelligently to maintain our safety and the safety of others. Please remember that worship is not about us. It is about what we bring to our Lord.

I have tried to cover all that we discussed, but none of us have ever traveled this path before. I am sure that other things will arise that we have not yet considered. I ask you to remain positive and flexible as we deal with this situation.

I am in the church office Sunday through Thursday. If you have questions, please call me at

(805) 772-8659 or (805) 909-2226. I am anxiously looking forward to seeing you again.

God Bless you,
Pastor Tracy
